Summary in one paragraph: we run research websites, not an advertising business. The Sites set no advertising or tracking cookies, use no third-party ad pixels, and do not sell or share personal information. The only personal data we receive is what you choose to send us: an e-mail address if you subscribe to research updates, or the contents of e-mails you write to us.
1. Data we collect
(a) Newsletter: if you subscribe, we store your e-mail address and subscription status with our e-mail service provider. Subscription is confirmed by double opt-in; every message contains an unsubscribe link that takes effect immediately.
(b) Correspondence: e-mails you send to our addresses (research@, press@, polina@) are retained as ordinary business correspondence.
(c) Technical logs: our hosting provider processes standard server logs (IP address, user agent, requested URL) for security and delivery; we do not use them to identify visitors.
(d) Analytics: if enabled, we use privacy-preserving, cookieless aggregate analytics (Plausible) that does not collect personal data and does not track you across sites. We do not use Google Analytics or advertising trackers.
2. Cookies
The Sites do not set advertising or cross-site tracking cookies. Strictly necessary technical storage may be used by our hosting/CMS infrastructure for security. Because no consent-requiring cookies are set, the Sites do not display a cookie banner; if this ever changes, this policy and the Sites will be updated first.
3. How we use data
To send research updates you asked for, to answer your messages, to keep the Sites secure. We do not sell personal information; we do not share it except with the service providers that operate the functions above (hosting, e-mail delivery), bound by their own data-processing terms, or where required by law.
4. Legal bases (EEA/UK visitors)
Consent (newsletter), legitimate interest (security logs, answering correspondence). You may withdraw consent at any time via the unsubscribe link or by writing to us.
5. Your rights
Depending on your jurisdiction (including GDPR and the California Consumer Privacy Act), you may request access, correction, deletion, or a copy of the personal data we hold about you, and you will not be discriminated against for exercising these rights. Write to [email protected]; we respond within the timeframe required by applicable law. Note for California residents: we do not sell or share personal information as defined by the CCPA/CPRA.
6. Data retention
Newsletter data — until you unsubscribe; correspondence — as long as needed for the purpose it was sent; logs — per our providers’ standard short retention.
7. Children
The Sites are not directed to children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect their data.
8. International transfers
Our providers may process data in the United States; where required, transfers rely on the providers’ standard contractual safeguards.
9. Research data ≠ visitor data
Our research datasets describe product listings of publicly accessible online storefronts. They concern products and prices, not website visitors, and contain no personal data of Site users; store identities in public releases are anonymized.
